PATTAYA · THAILAND

Coral islands by day, cabaret marquees by night.

Speedboats to Koh Larn, parasails over Jomtien, Tiffany’s and Alcazar after dark, and the quiet Gulf of Thailand corners in between. The whole stretch of coast, ranked.

Best Of Pattaya Pick a Place

Only in Pattaya

Three things you can’t do anywhere else.

Beach days exist in every coastal city. The temple, the cabaret and the coral island do not. One is a cathedral being carved by hand. One is the show that taught the rest of Asia how to do cabaret. One is a turquoise-water island reachable in less time than the airport transfer. Build the trip around these.

Carved by hand

Sanctuary of Truth

A 105-metre Gothic-meets-Khmer cathedral built entirely from teak, joined with wooden pegs and carved in place since 1981. Every surface is bas-relief. There is no other building in the world like this. The fact that it is still being carved is part of the experience.

Tiffany’s & Alcazar Cabaret

Pattaya invented the modern Asian cabaret revue. Tiffany’s has been running since 1974; Alcazar is the bigger of the two; both feature world-class transgender performers, full orchestras of recorded music, and costuming you would not see anywhere outside Vegas. The format started here.

Thirty minutes by boat

Koh Larn & the Coral Islands

White-sand tropical islands reachable from a resort-city pier in thirty minutes. Most coral-island day trips need a flight or an overnight bus to get to. Pattaya’s islands sit straight off the beachfront. Working harbour to Maldives-blue water in less time than the airport transfer.

The day everyone books

If you have one day in Pattaya, do this one.

The single tour that gets booked, rated and re-rated more than anything else on the Pattaya coast. A safe default if you're planning the trip in fifteen minutes between work and bed.

By place

Pick a stretch of Pattaya.

Each one is its own day. Koh Larn for the white sand. Walking Street for the after-dark mile. Sanctuary of Truth for the temple. The city for the bay. Sak Island when Coral gets too busy. Bangkok when you want a day out of town.

By tour type

Or pick how you want to spend the day.

Speedboat if you want range. Parasail or jet ski if you want the rush. Cabaret if you want a show. Muay Thai if you want a stadium night. Markets, dinner cruises, ATVs in the hills, the temple at sunset, and the rest of what the coast does.

A day on the coast

Pattaya, hour by hour.

Most destinations are one mood across the day. Pattaya is six. Plan around the rhythm and the city pays you back. Beach morning, spa afternoon, dinner cruise, cabaret, then the long mile after dark. Pick what fits your hours.

  1. 09:00

    Boat to Koh Larn

Ferry or speedboat from Bali Hai. White sand, clear water, back on the mainland by lunch.

  2. 12:30

    Seafood Lunch

Buffet floor on the beachfront or a hotel rooftop. Whatever came off the boat that morning.

  3. 14:30

    Temple Hour

Sanctuary of Truth before the light gets low, or a spa hour if your shoulders need it.

  4. 18:00

    Sunset Cruise

Out of Bali Hai again, dinner on the deck, the bay turning copper behind you.

  5. 20:00

    Cabaret & Show

Tiffany’s or Alcazar for the headline show, Colosseum for the smaller room.

  6. 22:00

    Walking Street

Rooftop bar first if you want a view, then the neon mile. Loud, lit, late.

Thirty minutes off the pier

If you came for the islands.

Koh Larn, Sak Island, Coral Island — the white-sand crescent everyone’s seen in the photos. Three boats we’d book first if the goal of the trip is the beach day.

On the marquee

The cabaret capital.

Tiffany’s started this in 1974. Alcazar followed. Colosseum is the new room. The world’s most-known transgender cabaret format runs on these stages every night. Three we’d take a first-time visitor to.

After dark

When the neon comes on.

Walking Street, rooftop bars, dinner cruises and the small live-music rooms off Second Road. Pattaya’s second act, and the part that built the city’s reputation. Three to slot in once the sun’s down.

A day off the coast

Out of town for the day.

Maeklong railway market and the Damnoen Saduak floating market. The capital. The quieter beaches at Rayong and Koh Samet. Pattaya sits between Bangkok and the eastern coast — here’s how we’d use a day off.
